I entered the Ohh Deer annual 'Pillow Fight' competition to expand on my illustration skills. Ohh Deer stocks selective illustrated goods in their own stores and through established brands such as John Lewis, Urban Outfitters, ASOS, Paperchase, Oliver Bonus, Scribbler, Tate and Selfridges. 

The brief was to simply design a pillow case for the home. The competition lasted a month and during this time each pillow case submitted and approved by Ohh Deer was available to be purchased as a limited edition on their website, with selected artists work going into Ohh Deer stores permanently.  

For my design I chose to illustrate my favourite spot in New York City in a graphic style. I loved the composition of a photograph I took in Greenwich Village, with the detailing of the intricate fire escapes and railings. I wanted to recreate this in an illustration. I felt it was the type of design that could have the potential to sell well because it has a strong sense of place that others may be able to relate to if they've been here on a city break. However the aesthetically pleasing detailing makes it an enjoyable design, whether relatable to the customer or not!
